Inmitten der ehemaligen russisch-orthodoxen St. Nikolaus-Kirche konzipierten die Planer von Wutopia Lab eine Raum-in-Raum-Konstruktion, die als riesiges Bücherregal fungiert. Die neue Konstruktion ist eine Art Innenkuppel aus 5mm dicken Stahlblechen, die sich über die Altarapsis der Kirche wölbt und im unteren Teil als Bücherregal dient. Dieser rund 9 Meter hohe Aufbau ist das Herzstück der nun größten professionellen Buchhandlung über Poesie in Shanghai mit ca. 1000 Büchern in verschiedenen Sprachen. Die Ladenfläche beträgt 388 qm und beinhaltet neben kleineren Leseräumen und Ausstellungsflächen auch ein kleines Café in einem Anbau an der Kirchenrückseite.
In the midst of the former Russian Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas, the designers of Wutopia Lab created a room-within-a-room construction that functions as a giant bookshelf. The new structure is a kind of interior dome made of 5mm thick steel sheets, which arches over the altar apse of the church and serves as a bookshelf in the lower part. This structure, about 9 meters high, is the centerpiece of what is now the largest professional bookstore on poetry in Shanghai, with about 1000 books in different languages. The store area is 388 qm tall and includes smaller reading rooms and exhibition areas as well as a small café in an extension at the back of the church.
