Nach rund zweieinhalb Jahren Planungs- und Bauarbeiten öffnete die neue Bibliothek der Technischen Hochschule Köln (TH Köln) am Standort Gummersbach termingerecht zum 31. August 2020. Aufgrund der kontinuerlich gestiegenen Studierendenzahlen und dem erhöhtem Raumbedarf der Mensa, musste die Bibliohek von seinem alten Standort im 1. Obergeschoss zugunsten der Mensa-Erweiterung weichen. Mit der Anmietung des Erdgeschosses eines IT-Unternehmens in naher Umgebung wurde eine ideale Raumlösung gefunden, sodass die Bibliothek zeitnah wieder den Betrieb aufnehmen konnte. Die neuen Räumlichkeiten bieten vielfältige Lern- und Arbeitsmöglichkeiten in farbenfroher Lounge-Atmosphäre auf einer Fläche von rund. 1.100 Quadratmetern.
After about two and a half years of planning and construction work, the new university library of the Technical University of Cologne (TH Köln) at the Gummersbach location opened on schedule on 31 August 2020. Due to the continuous increase in student numbers and the increased space requirements of the canteen, it was clear that the library would have to move from its old location on the first floor in favour of the canteen extension. Fortunately, an ideal space solution was found by renting the ground floor of an IT company in the nearby neighbourhood, so that the library was able to resume operations promptly. The new facilities offer a variety of learning and working opportunities in a colourful lounge atmosphere on an area of approx. 1,100 square metres.
