Stadtbibliothek 'Billie Jean King', Long Beach (US)

Benannt nach der amerikanischen Tennis-Ikone und Frauenrechtlerin Billie Jean King, eröffnete im September 2019 eine neue Stadtbibliothek in Long Beach, Kalifornien. Nach zwei Jahren Bauzeit und Kosten von rund 48 Millionen US$, empfängt sie heute bis zu 1000 Besucher täglich und bietet ihnen ein reiches Angebot an Nutzungen und Aktivitäten. So gibt es neben dem Hauptlesesaal, separate Familien-Lernräume, Kinderabteilungen und "Makerspaces" mit Ausstattungen für Filmtechnik, 3D-Druck und Robotik. Insgesamt stehen der Bibliothek 300.000 Medien zur Verfügung. Dazu gehört eines der größten Comic- und Graphikroman-Sammlungen Südkaliforniens. Ein architektonisches Highlight ist das große, zentrale Atrium, das die Bücherhalle mit ausreichend Licht versorgt.


Named after American tennis icon and women's rights activist Billie Jean King, the new public library in Long Beach, California, opened in September 2019. After two years of construction and a cost of around US$48 million, it now welcomes up to 1,000 visitors a day and offers them a wide range of uses and activities. In addition to the main reading room, there are separate family learning rooms, children's sections and "makerspaces" with equipment for film technology, 3D printing and robotics. A total of 300,000 media are available in the library. This includes one of the largest comic and graphic novel collections in Southern California. One architectural highlight is the large, central atrium, which provides the library with sufficient natural light.
