Am 30. August 2014 eröffnete die nach dem Nordhausener Schriftsteller und Dichter „Rudolf Hagelstange benannte Stadtbibliothek. Die etwa 1500m² große Bibliothek ist im Mehrzweckgebäude des neuen Bürgerhauses am Standort der einstigen Marktkirche untergebracht. Zusammen mit Ratssaal, Café und großer Stadtterasse bildet die „Kulturbibliothek“ einen neuen Treffpunkt und trägt zur Belebung der Innenstadt bei. Das Gebäude, in dem 66.000 Medieneinheiten untergebracht sind, ist als dreigeschossiges, lichtdurchflutetes Raumkontinuum mit Doppelfassaden nach Süden und Norden konzipiert. Im Oktober 2016 wurde die Stadtbibliothek mit dem Thüringer Bibliothekspreis ausgezeichnet.
On 30 August 2014, the "Rudolf Hagelstange" library, named after the Nordhausen writer and poet, opened its doors. The library, which is about 1500m² in size, is housed in the multi-purpose building of the new community centre on the site of the former market church. Together with the council hall, café and large city terrace, the "culture library" forms a new meeting place and contributes to the revitalisation of the city centre. The building, which houses 65,670 media units, is designed as a three-storey, light-flooded spatial continuum with double facades facing south and north. In October 2016, the library was awarded the Thuringian Library Prize.
