Im Jahr 1869 durch kaiserliche Entschließung gegründet,
bildet die Parlamentsbibliothek mit dem Parlamentsarchiv das
Informationszentrum des Parlaments für Parlamentarismus, Politik, Demokratie
und Recht. Sie ist die größte politische Fachbibliothek Österreichs. Im Zuge
der Renovierung des Parlaments bis 2023 wurde auch die zugehörige Bibliothek
renoviert. Der Zugang zur Bibliothek erfolgt über den Haupteingang des
Parlaments. Sie ist dem Besucher:innenzentrum angeschlossen und befindet sich
hinter dem Café Agora. Nutzer:innen stehen drei Räume, das ehemalige
Mittelmagazin, der Lesesaal und die Servicezone, zur Verfügung. Mit über
370.000 Büchern und rund 270 Fachzeitschriften und Zeitungen versorgt sie die
Abgeordneten des Nationalrats und Mitglieder des Bundesrates, österreichische Mitglieder
des Europäischen Parlaments sowie deren
Mitarbeiter und externe Benutzer mit Literatur. Neben wissenschaftlicher Referenzliteratur
umfasst der Bestand auch Spezialsammlungen parlamentarischer Amtsdrucke der
gesetzgebenden Körperschaften Österreichs ab 1861.
Founded in
1869 by imperial resolution, the Parliamentary Library together with the
Parliamentary Archives forms the information centre of the Parliament for
parliamentarism, politics, democracy and law. It is the largest specialised
political library in Austria. In the course of the renovation of the Parliament
until 2023, the associated library was also renovated. Access to the library is
via the main entrance of the Parliament. It is connected to the Visitor Centre
and is located behind the Café Agora. Users have access to three rooms, the
former central stacks, the reading room and the service zone. With over 370,000
books and around 270 specialist journals and newspapers, it provides literature
for members of the National Council and members of the Federal Council,
Austrian members of the European Parliament as well as their staff and external
users. In addition to academic reference literature, the holdings also include
special collections of official parliamentary prints of Austria's legislative
bodies from 1861 onwards.
