Die Stadtbibliothek liegt in der Altstadt von Wittenberg und besteht aus einem Vorderhaus und einem eingeschossigen Anbau, der einen offenen Innenhof umschließt. Davon nimmt die Bibliothek die gesamte Erdgeschossfläche beider Gebäudeteile ein. Um den aktuellen Nutzungsanforderungen gerecht zu werden, wurde die Stadtbibliothek grundlegend saniert und erweitert. Auf einer Nutzfläche von 590 qm bietet die Stadtbücherei flexibel nutzbare Flächen und unterschiedliche Raumkonfigurationen an, in denen Veranstaltungsformate wie z.B. Lesungen, Vorträge, und Konzerte stattfinden können. Die Bereiche der Kinder- und Jugendbibliothek sowie die Zeitungs- und Magazin-Lounge befinden sich nun im Schaufensterraum, der sich mit großen Fenstern in Richtung Straße öffnet. Die südlich vorgelagerte, bisher ungenutzte Grundstückshälfte wurde zu einem Lesegarten umgestaltet und zudem entstanden Räume für Werkstätten und Flächen für diverse Aktivitäten.
The library is located in the old town of Wittemberg and consists of a front building and a one-storey extension enclosing an open inner courtyard. The library occupies the entire ground floor area of both parts of the building. In order to meet the current needs of the users, the municipal library has now been renovated and expanded. On a floor space of 590 square metres, the public library offers flexibly usable areas and different room configurations in which event formats such as readings, lectures and concerts can take place. The areas of the children's and youth library as well as the newspaper and magazine lounge are now located in the showcase room, which opens up with large windows towards the street. The previously unused half of the site to the south was redesigned into a reading garden, and additional rooms were created for workshops and areas for various activities.
