Die Vorarlberger Landesbibliothek befindet sich seit 1986 im Areal des ehemaligen Benediktinerklosters St. Gallusstift. In den 1980er Jahren war sie eine der modernsten Bibliotheken Österreichs mit einem großen Freihandbestand und dem repräsentativen Kuppelsaal als Veranstaltungsraum. Um die Bibliothek an digitale Medien und heutige gewandelte Anforderungen anzupassen, wurde sie zwischen 2021 und 2022 umgebaut. Es gibt nun eine moderne Infothek mit Rechercheplätzen, Backofficebereichen sowie einer attraktiven Kommunikationszone. Der neue Zugang ins Gebäude und zum Kuppelsaal verbessern die Orientierbarkeit für die Besucher:innen. Die Regale in den Wänden der Lesesäle bieten viel Platz für wissenschaftliche Zeitschriften. Außerdem wurden vier komfortable Arbeitsräume für kooperatives Lernen in der Kleingruppe eingerichtet, die kostenlos online buchbar und mit WLAN und Smartboards ausgestattet sind. Mit einem Bestand von über einer halben Million Medien ist die Vorarlberger Landesbibliothek die größte wissenschaftliche Bibilothek der Region.
The Vorarlberg State Library has been located in the area of the former Benedictine monastery St. Gallusstift since 1986. In the 1980s, it was one of the most modern libraries in Austria with a large open access collection and the representative domed hall as a function room. In order to adapt the library to digital media and today's changing requirements, it was rebuilt between 2021 and 2022. There is now a modern information desk with research stations, back office areas and an attractive communication zone. The new access to the building and the Kuppelsaal improve orientation for visitors. The shelves in the walls of the reading rooms offer plenty of space for scientific journals. In addition, four comfortable workrooms for cooperative learning in small groups have been set up, which can be booked online free of charge and are equipped with WLAN and smartboards. With a stock of more than half a million media, the Vorarlberg State Library is the largest academic library in the region.
