Die zweigeschossige 60 m lange und 10,60 m breite
neue Bibliothek fungiert symbolisch als Brücke zwischen Forschung und
Öffentlichkeit. Sie verbindet das neue Bürogebäude und die alte Villa, deren
neues Foyer als öffentlicher Veranstaltungs- und Ausstellungsort genutzt wird. Von
dem neuen Foyer der Villa aus gelangen Nutzerinnen und Nutzer über eine Brücke,
die Villa und Bibliothek verbindet, zur Ausleihtheke ins Erdgeschoss der
Bibliothek. Eine weitere Brücke zwischen Bibliothek und Bürogebäude, in dem
sich auch die Arbeitsplätze der 15 Bibliotheksmitarbeiterinnen und -mitarbeiter
befinden, bietet einen direkten Zugang zur Bibliothek für die Kolleginnen und
Kollegen des Instituts. Mit dem Neubau konnte die GEI-Bibliothek ihre Nutzfläche
im Vergleich zum alten Standort in der Villa von Bülow verdreifachen. QR Codes in
den Regalen führen zu entsprechenden E-Book-Providern und tragen zum digitalen
Angebot bei. Ebenfalls im Bestand wurden frei verwendbare Tablets platziert,
auf denen jeweils passender digitaler Content präsentiert ist.
The
two-storey 60 m long and 10.60 m wide new library symbolically functions as a
bridge between research and the public. It connects the new office building and
the old villa, whose new foyer is used as a public event and exhibition space.
From the new foyer of the villa, users reach the circulation desk on the ground
floor of the library via a bridge connecting the villa and the library. Another
bridge between the library and the office building, which also houses the
workplaces of the 15 library staff, provides direct access to the library for
colleagues of the institute. With the new building, the GEI library was able to
triple its usable space compared to its old location in the Villa von Bülow. QR
codes on the shelves lead to corresponding e-book providers and contribute to
the digital offer. Free-use tablets were also placed in the collection, on
which suitable digital content is presented.
