Die von Teeple Architects und Stantec renovierte Stanley A. Milner Bibliothek aus den 1960er Jahren im Herzen der Innenstadt von Edmonton (Alberta, Kanada) wurde am 17. September 2020 feierlich eröffnet. Um das Milner Gebäude und seine Dienstleistungen in das 21. Jahrhundert zu bringen, wurden umfangreiche Sanierungsmaßnahmen durchgeführt, wie die Erneuerung der maroden Gebäudehülle, die Modernisierung veralteter Gebäudesysteme, die Aktivierung des öffentlichen Raums um das Gebäude herum und die Schaffung einer neuen architektonischen Identität. Die Innenrenovierung schuf große, helle Räume wie das sechstöckige Atrium, das von einer geschwungenen „Leserampe“ und einer zweistöckigen interaktiven Ausstellungswand begrenzt wird. Weitere Einrichtungen wie Makerspaces, eine Lehrküche, eine multifunktionale Kinderbibliothek, Theater- und Veranstaltungsräume machen das Gebäude zu einem beliebten sozialen und kreativen Treffpunkt in der Stadt.
Designed by Teeple Architects and Stantec, the renovated Stanley A. Milner Library in the heart of downtown Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, celebrated its grand opening on 17 September 2020. The refurbishment was a redesign and transformation of the existing 1960s library building. With the goal of bringing the Milner building and its services into the 21st century, extensive renovations were undertaken, including the recovery of the aging building skin, the modernisation of outdated building systems, the activation of the public space around the building, and the creation of a new architectural identity. An extensive interior renovation created large, bright spaces such as the six-storey atrium, bordered by a curved "reading ramp" and a two-storey interactive exhibition wall. Other facilities such as makerspaces, a teaching kitchen, a multifunctional children's library, theatre and event spaces ultimately transform the building into a contemporary institution and popular, social and creative meeting place in the city.
