Die neue 26.000 m² große öffentliche Bibliothek der kanadischen Stadt Brampton, 45 km westlich von Toronto gelegen, ist nicht nur ein neuer Treffpunkt für die Stadt, sondern auch ein architektonisches Highlight. Eine dreieckige Grundform, in der sich Innenhöfe mit Gebäudeteilen abwechseln, amorphe Decken und schräge Bodenplatten geben dem Besucher einzigartige Raumerfahrungen. Das Innenprogramm beinhaltet neben großen Lernlandschaften auch kleinere Seminarräume, einen multifunktionalen Gemeinschaftssraum, einen Makerspace mit 3D-Druckern und eine Kinderbibliothek. Aufgrund der ambitionierten Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie der Planer erhielt das Gebäude eine LEED Gold-Zertifizierung. Die Baukosten beliefen sich auf rund 16,7 Millionen US Dollar.
The new 26,000 m² public library of the Canadian city of Brampton, located 45 km west of Toronto, is not only a new meeting point for the city, but also an architectural highlight. A triangular basic form in which inner courtyards alternate with parts of the building, amorphous ceilings and sloping floor slabs give visitors unique spatial experiences. The interior programme includes large learning landscapes as well as smaller seminar rooms, a multifunctional common room, a makerspace with 3D printers and a children's library. Due to the planners' ambitious sustainability strategy, the building received LEED Gold certification. The construction costs amounted to around 16.7 million US dollars.
