Im Rahmen der Revitalisierung des Bahnhofsvorplatzes entsteht am Konrad-Adenauer-Platz 1 ein neues kulturelles Zentrum für die Stadt Düsseldorf. Die FFT Kammerspiele, das Theatermuseum und eine deutlich vergrößerte Zentralbibliothek finden auf rund 25.000 m² kernsanierter Mietfläche Platz. Durch seine zentrale Lage und die guten Anlieferungsmöglichkeiten brachte das ehemalige Postgebäude die idealen Voraussetzungen für dieses Projekt mit. Nach knapp 2 Jahren Entkernungs- und Ausbauarbeiten eröffnete die neue Bibliothek am 6. November 2021. Auf zwei Etagen und 7.750 m² Publikumsfläche stehen den Besuchern 600 Arbeitsplätze zur Verfügung. Des Weiteren gehören ein Veranstaltungssaal und ein begrünter Dachgarten zur Ausstattung der neuen Stadtbücherei. Die Kosten für die Ausbaumaßnahmen lagen bei 16,5 Millionen Euro.
As part of the revitalisation of the train station forecourt, a new cultural centre for the city of Düsseldorf is being created at Konrad-Adenauer-Platz 1. The FFT Kammerspiele, the theatre museum and a significantly enlarged central library will find space on around 25,000 m² of core renovated rental space. Thanks to its central location and good delivery possibilities, the former post office building offered the ideal conditions for this project. After almost 2 years of demolition and extension work, the new library will open its doors on the weekend of 6 and 7 November 2021. 600 workstations will be available to visitors on two floors and 7,750 m² of public space, instead of the previous 218. Furthermore, an event hall for 180 people and a green roof garden are part of the equipment of the new public library. The costs for the expansion were 16.5 million euros.
