Als neuester Bibliotheksbau von Bruno Gaudin, eröffnete im Oktober 2021 die Universitätsbibliothek ‚La Contemporaine‘ im Pariser Stadtteil Nanterre für Forscherende und Öffentlichkeit. Das Gebäude, das der Konservierung, Ausstellung und Konsultation zeitgenössischer Quellen gewidmet ist, umfasst Ausstellungs-, Beratungs-, Schulungs-, Archiv- und Arbeitsräume. Wie der Name vermuten lässt, ist die Einrichtung weitaus mehr als nur eine einfache Bibliothek. Neben der umfangreichen Buchsammlung werden auch regelmäßig Ausstellungen organisiert, welche hauptsächlich der Geschichte des 20. Und 21. Jahrhunderts gewidmet sind. Während das Gebäude mit seiner hellen Ziegelfassade von außen recht unscheinbar wirkt, ist die Innenarchitektur überraschend markant; brutalistisch anmutende Betonbögen prägen die Raumstruktur und überspannen die Lesesäle.
The latest library building by Bruno Gaudin, the university library 'La Contemporaine' opens in October 2021 in the Nanterre district of Paris for researchers and the public. Dedicated to the conservation, exhibition and consultation of contemporary sources, the building includes exhibition, consultation, training, archive and work spaces. As the name suggests, the facility is much more than a simple library. In addition to the extensive book collection, exhibitions are also regularly organised, which are mainly dedicated to the history of the 20th and 21st centuries. While the building with its light brick facade looks quite insignificant from the outside, the interior architecture is surprisingly striking; brutalist-looking concrete arches characterise the spatial structure and cover the reading rooms.
