Dieses Projekt in Matsubara, in der japanischen Präfektur Osaka, ersetzt eine bestehende Bibliothek an gleicher Stelle. Ursprünglich plante der Bauherr den Teich aufzuschütten. Der Siegerentwurf von MARU Architecture schlug jedoch vor, die Bibliothek direkt ins Wasser zu bauen. Der Vorschlag überzeugte durch seine Kreativität und Einfachheit; denn durch die Rationalisierung des Bauprozesses, also die Erhaltung des Gewässers, konnte ein hoher Anteil der Baukosten eingespart werden. Um das Gebäude vor Wasser zu schützen, horizontale Kräfte bei Erdbeben zu absorbieren und die nötige Isolierung zu gewährleisten, wurden 600 mm starke Stahlbetonwände verbaut. Dank dieser stabilen Außenwände konnte im Inneren des Gebäudes eine Split-Level-Konstruktion mit einer Stahlkonstruktion realisiert werden. Die gestaffelten Geschosse geben Einblicke in die angrenzenden Etagen frei, so dass die gesamte Bibliothek als ein einheitlicher Raum wirkt.
This project in Matsubara, located in Osaka Prefecture, replaces an existing library on the same site. Originally, the client planned to fill in the pond. However, the winning design by MARU Architecture proposed to build the library directly into the water. The proposal was convincing due to its creativity and simplicity; by rationalising the construction process, i.e. preserving the water body, a high proportion of the construction costs could be saved. In order to protect the building from water, absorb horizontal forces during earthquakes and provide the necessary insulation, 600 mm thick reinforced concrete walls were built. Thanks to the stable exterior walls, a split-level construction with a steel structure could be realised inside the building. The staggered floors provide views of the adjoining floors, so that the entire library appears as a unified space.
