In der Küstenstadt Haikou auf der südchinesischen Insel Hainan eröffnete die von MAD Architects entworfene, biomorphe Betonbibliothek „Cloudscape“. Das am Ufer der Haikou-Bucht gelegene Gebäude, das einen Buchladen und Bürgereinrichtungen enthält, liegt ruhig zwischen Land und Meer und ist höchst skulptural. Die freien und organischen Formen des Pavillons schaffen einzigartige Innenräume, in denen Wände, Böden und Decken auf leichtfällige Weise ineinander übergehen. Das Projekt umfasst eine Fläche von 4.400 m², wobei die Baufläche ca. 1.400 m² beträgt. An der Südseite des Pavillons befinden sich eine Bibliothek und ein Leseraum, der 10.000 Bücher bereithält, sowie ein multifunktionaler audiovisueller Bereich: frei und zugänglich für die öffentliche Nutzung. Im nördlichen Bereich des Gebäudes befinden sich ein Café, öffentliche und barrierefreie Toiletten, Duschen, ein Kinderzimmer, ein öffentlicher Ruhebereich und ein Dachgarten.
A biomorphic concrete library called Cloudscape, designed by MAD Architects, opened in the southern Chinese coastal city of Haikou. Located on the shore of Haikou Bay, the building, which houses a bookstore and civic facilities, sits quietly between land and sea and is highly sculptural. The pavilion's free and organic forms create unique interior spaces where walls, floors and ceilings blend into each other in a light-hearted way. The project covers an area of 4,400 m², with a construction area of approximately 1,400 m². On the south side of the pavilion there is a library and reading room that holds 10,000 books, as well as a multifunctional audiovisual area: free and accessible for public use. The northern part of the building houses a café, public and barrier-free toilets, showers, a children's room, a public rest area and a roof garden.
