Die vom niederländischen Architekturbüro Mecanoo entworfene, neue Stadtbibliothek der taiwanesischen Millionenstadt Tainan ist von lokaler Baukultur inspiriert und speziell für tropisches Klima konzipiert worden. Sie beherbergt das kulturelle Erbe der Stadt, moderne Kunst, Musik, Filme und über eine Millionen Bücher. Sie ist mit den neuesten Technologien einer modernen Bibliothek ausgestattet wie Touchscreens Selbstbedienungsterminals zur Ausleihe von Büchern. Außerdem gehören zur Bibliothek vier Außenbereiche, die als Dachgärten angelegt sind, sowie drei multifunktionale Gruppenräume und ein Café. Im oberen Teil des Gebäudes befinden sich das Theater und der Konferenzsaal sowie Büros für die Mitarbeiter. Zusätzlich verfügt das Gebäude über eine Kunstgalerie, einen Makerspace und eine Braille-Bibliothek.
Designed by the Dutch architecture firm Mecanoo, the new city library of the Taiwanese megacity of Tainan was inspired by local building culture and is specially designed for a tropical climate. It houses the city's cultural heritage, modern art, music, films and over one million books, including more than 16,000 from the Japanese occupation period. It is equipped with the latest technologies of a modern library. There are touchscreens to explore the collection and self-service points to check out books. The library also has four outdoor areas, which are roof gardens, as well as three multifunctional rooms for classrooms/workshops and a café. The upper part of the building houses the theatre and conference hall, as well as offices for staff. In addition, the building has an art gallery, a makerspace and a Braille library.
