Das Projekt markiert die erste Phase einer mehrstufigen Revitalisierung der in Brooklyn gelegenen Zentralbibliothek. Das Gebäude wurde 1941 eröffnet und zieht jährlich über 1,3 Millionen Besucher an. Die Renovierung umfasst drei separate Projekte. Das erste Projekt fungiert als Zentrum der Bibliothek und bietet außerdem einen Seminarraum und Sitzungsräume. Dieser Teil ist der zentrale Knotenpunkt für die Materialverarbeitung für den gesamten Bibliotheks-Kreislauf. Das Renovierungsprojekt für die Jugenddienste soll Treffpunkte für die jugendliche Gemeinschaft bieten. Der neue „Information Commons“ mit einer Gesamtfläche von ca. 6.000 Quadratmetern dient als Technologiezentrum der Bibliothek. Er bietet Computerstationen und Internetzugang für die Öffentlichkeit, während ein neuer Seminarraum und Tagungsräume eine Vielzahl von Bildungsprogrammen ermöglichen. In der Nähe des großen Foyers der Bibliothek befindet sich eine "New & Noteworthy"-Büchergalerie, in der die Titel von Bibliothekaren kuratiert und in offenen Regalen ausgestellt werden.
The project marks the first phase of a multi-phase revitalisation of the Brooklyn-based Central Library. The building opened in 1941 and attracts over 1.3 million visitors annually. The renovation comprises three separate projects. The first project acts as the centre of the library and also features a seminar room and meeting spaces. This part is the central hub for material processing for the entire library circuit. The youth services renovation project will provide meeting spaces for the youth community. The new Information Commons, with a total area of approximately 6,000 square feet, serves as the library's technology hub. It offers computer stations and internet access for the public, while a new seminar room and meeting rooms facilitate a variety of educational programmes. Near the library's grand foyer is a "New & Noteworthy" book gallery where titles are curated by librarians and displayed on open shelves.
