Woods Bagot London hat eine neue Schulbibliothek im Herzen des St Mary's Calne Schulcampus in Wiltshire, UK, entworfen. Sie ist neues kommunikatives Zentrum des Campus', in dem akademisches und soziales Leben nebeneinander Platz findenDer rechteckige, pavillonartigerBaukörper besitzt ein markantes Design, das die umliegenden jahrhundertealten Gebäude mit einbezieht. Am Planugsprozess waren von der Direktorin bis hin zu den Schülerinnen alle Nutzerinnenbeteiligt. Das Ergebnis ist ein. Während drei der Fassaden in Ziegel gehüllt sind, öffnet sich eine der Längsseiten mit raumhohen Fenstern zum davorliegenden Obstgarten. Das Erdgeschoss ist mit vielfältigen Gemeinschaftsbereichen offen und lebendig gestaltet. Im Gegensatz dazu befinden sich im ersten Stockwerk ungestörte Zonen für konzentriertes Lesen und Lernen. Neben Arbeitsplätzen mit Aussicht auf das Campusgelände gibt es eingebaute Bücherregale, die die Wandflächen optimal nutzen.

Bagot London has designed a
new school library at the heart of the St Mary's Calne school campus in
Wiltshire, UK. It will create a communicative hub on the campus where academic
and social life can sit side by side. Since it’s opening at the end of 2020,
the library now acts as a hub of inspiration and learning, with a striking
design that incorporates the surrounding centuries-old buildings. To meet
everyone's needs, all users were involved in the design process, from the
director to the students. The result is a rectangular, pavilion-like structure.
While three of the façades are clad in brick, one of the long sides opens up to
the apple orchard in front with floor-to-ceiling windows. From the entrance
area, library visitors have an unobstructed view of the orchard opposite. The
ground floor is open and lively with a variety of common areas. In contrast,
the first floor has undisturbed zones for concentrated reading and learning. In
addition to workstations with a view of the campus grounds, there are built-in
bookshelves that make optimal use of the wall space.
