Rolex Learning Center, Lausanne

Das Rolex Learning Center befindet sich im Herzen des Campus der École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. Der gewellte Gebäudekomplex beherbergt neben der Bibliothek auch verschiedene Arbeits- und Ruhebereiche, Büros, Restaurants, einen Mehrzwecksaal für beispielsweise Konferenzen und eine Cafeteria. Die Bodenplatte aus Beton und Deckenkonstruktion aus Stahl und Holz verlaufen parallel zueinander und gliedern durch ihre wellenförmige Auf- und Abbewegung das Gebäude ohne den Einsatz von Trennwänden in verschiedene Räume, die durchgängige Glasfassade sorgt für eine gute Belichtung.

Auf 6 200m² Bibliotheksfläche finden sich etwa 500 000 Bände und 200 der 860 Arbeitsplätze für Studierende.

SANAA gewann für das Learning Center den Pritzkerpreis 2010. Die Baukosten betrugen 110 Mio. CHF, wovon 52 Mio. CHF von privaten Geldgebern stammten.

The Rolex Learning Center is located in the heart of the campus of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. In addition to the library, the undulating building complex also houses various work and rest areas, offices, restaurants, a multi-purpose hall for conferences, for example, and a cafeteria. The concrete floor slab and ceiling construction of steel and wood run parallel to each other and, thanks to their undulating up and down movement, divide the building into different rooms without the use of partition walls; the continuous glass façade ensures good lighting.

The 6 200m² of library space houses some 500 000 volumes and 200 of the 860 workplaces for students.

SANAA won the 2010 Pritzker Prize for the Learning Centre, which cost CHF 110 million to build, of which CHF 52 million came from private donors.
