The new Hubland district library is located in a former airfield tower from the 1920s. In 2018, the city hosted the State Garden Show on the site, and now a new district with lots of green space and housing is being developed there. The library is designed as a "third place" and is intended to play an integrative role. This idea is supported by the "Open Library" concept. With a valid library card, anyone over the age of 16 can enter outside of opening hours. The library covers the ground floor and a basement and, in addition to books and audiovisual media, also has PCs with Internet access, VR glasses, 3D printers, a makerspace and WLAN. From the very beginning, citizens were involved in the three-year planning process for the new 400 m² library.
