Die neue Zentralbibliothek im kanadischen Calgary wurde über einer hochfrequentierten Straßenbahntrasse errichtet und folgt dem Schienenverlauf, was ihr eine ungewöhnliche Halbmondform verleiht. Das gut durchdachte Innere und dessen Ausgestaltung in hochwertigem Holz sorgen für eine angenehme Atmosphäre, aber auch Baukosten in Höhe von 245 Mio CND. Mit 240 000 sqft (ca. 22 300m²) fasst die Bibliothek einen Bestand von 450 000 Büchern. Etwa die Hälfte aller 1,2 Millionen Einwohner sind aktive Nutzer.
The new central library in Calgary, Canada, was built over a busy tram line and follows the track, giving it an unusual crescent shape. The well-thought-out interior and its design in high-quality wood provide a pleasant atmosphere, but also construction costs of CND 245 million. With 240 000 sqft (about 22 300m²), the library holds a collection of 450 000 books. About half of the 1.2 million inhabitants are active users.
