Stadtbibliothek, Grimstad

Die neue Bibliothek in Grimstad, eine Küstenstadt im Südwesten Norwegens, hat eine zentrale Lage am Wasser. Sie liegt zwischen der Altstadt und dem neuen Stadtzentrum. Die Bibliothek soll nicht nur ein Ort zum Lesen und Ausleihen von Büchern sein, sondern auch ein sozialer Treffpunkt mit der Möglichkeit, eine Vielzahl von kulturellen Veranstaltungen zu organisieren. Das Gebäude fungiert als überdachter Durchgang, der die Altstadt im Norden mit dem neuen Stadtzentrum im Süden verbindet. Dieser Durchgang wird mit einem öffentlichen und kulturellen Programm gefüllt, das alle Einwohner und Besucher der Stadt nutzen können. Die alte Struktur des Bestandsgebäudes wurde teilweise beibehalten und dient als Fundament für die neue leichte Holzstruktur. Die Holzrahmen sind in einem Abstand von 3 Metern auf das bestehende Betongebäude aufgesetzt. Die Fassade charakterisiert sich durch rhythmische Faltungen und bietet Besuchern einen Platz zum Sitzen und Lesen in den breiten Fensternischen. Im ersten Stockwerk befindet sich die Hauptbibliothek und im zweiten Stockwerk ein abgetrennter Bereich für Kinder. Die Verwaltung befindet sich im Erdgeschoss. Außerdem beherbergt das Gebäude ein Café, ein Auditorium und Ausstellungsräume. Mit ihren Eingängen auf beiden Seiten ist die Bibliothek zu einem beliebten Anlaufpunkt zwischen der Altstadt und der Uferpromenade geworden.

The new library in Grimstad, a coastal town in southwest Norway, has a central location on the waterfront. It is located between the old town and the new city centre. The library is not only intended to be a place to read and borrow books, but also a social meeting place with the possibility to organise a variety of cultural events. The building will function as a covered passageway connecting the old town in the north with the new town centre in the south. This passageway will be filled with a public and cultural programme that all residents and visitors of the city can use. The old structure of the existing building was partially retained and serves as the foundation for the new light wooden structure. The wooden frames are placed on top of the existing concrete building at a distance of 3 metres. The facade is characterised by rhythmic folds and offers visitors a place to sit and read in the wide window niches. The main library is located on the first floor and a separate area for children on the second floor. The administration is located on the ground floor. The building also houses a café, an auditorium and exhibition rooms. With its entrances on both sides, the library has become a popular focal point between the old town and the waterfront.
