Die neue, preisgekrönte Bibliothek des "Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland" (RSCI) ist ein bemerkenswertes Gebäude, dass sich nicht nur auf seine Nutzer sondern auch auf die Beziehung der Hochschule zur Stadt positiv auswirkt. Studenten, Forscher und Kliniker in allen Stadien ihrer Laufbahn werden hier zusammengebracht und hauchen dem Viertel neues Leben ein. Nach dem strategischen Wandel der Hochschule entstand mit dem 80 Mio. Euro teuren, hochtechnologisiertem Gebäude ein Ort für ‚teambasiertes, selbstgesteuertes, lebenslanges und interprofessionelles Lernen‘. Der Neubau befindet sich im historischen Stadtkern von Dublin und ist ein komplexer Stapel von zehn Stockwerken, davon vier unterirdisch und sechs oberirdisch. Ein zentrales Atrium, um das sich verschiedene Pausen- und informelle Lernräume gruppieren, sorgt für Transparenz und schafft visuelle Verbindungen zwischen den Studentenräumen und den umliegenden spezialisierten Lehr- und Simulationsräumen.
The new award-winning library of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RSCI) is a remarkable building that has a positive impact not only on its users but also on the college's relationship with the city. Students, researchers and clinicians at all stages of their careers are brought together here, breathing new life into the neighbourhood. Following the university's strategic transformation, the 80-million-euro, high-tech building has become a place for 'team-based, self-directed, lifelong and interprofessional learning'. Located in Dublin's historic city centre, the new building is a complex stack of ten storeys, four of which are underground and six above ground. A central atrium, around which various break and informal learning spaces are grouped, provides transparency and creates visual connections between student spaces and the surrounding specialised teaching and simulation spaces.
