Zentralbibliothek, Dresden

Mit dem Umbau und der Sanierung des Kulturpalastes erhielt die Stadt Dresden nach jahrelangen Interimslösungen endlich wieder eine neue Zentralbibliothek im Herzen der Stadt. Zusammen mit den Institutionen der Dresdner Philharmonie und dem Kabarett „Herkuleskeule“ bildet sie ein neues Miteinander von Kultur, Bildung und Unterhaltung. Die Bibliothek erstreckt sich über zwei Geschosse und ist ringförmig um den Konzertsaal der Philharmonie angeordnet. Sie umfasst 500 Lese- und Arbeitsplätze und bietet einen Veranstaltungsraum für fast 200 Personen. Die sonst reduziert gestalteten Räume erhalten durch die Verwendung eines Rottons aus dem Ursprungsbestand einen farblichen Akzent. Unikate Sitzmöbel für Kinder- und Jugendliche sind ein weiterer Blickfang. Die Eröffnung fand am 29. April 2017 statt.

With the conversion and renovation of the Kulturpalast, the city of Dresden finally got a new central library in the heart of the city, after years of interim solutions. Together with the institutions of the Dresden Philharmonic and the cabaret "Herkuleskeule", it forms a new coexistence of culture, education and entertainment. The library extends over two floors and is arranged in a ring around the concert hall of the Philharmonie. It comprises 500 reading and working places and offers an event room for almost 200 people. The otherwise pared-down rooms are given a colourful accent through the use of a red tone from the original stock. Unique seating furniture for children and young people is another eye-catcher. The opening took place on 29 April 2017.
