Das Stavos-Niarchos-Kulturzentrum wurde in Kallithea, 4 km südlich vom Zentrum Athens, errichtet. Das Kultur- und Bildungsprojekt umfasst die Nationalbibliothek Griechenlands und die griechische Nationaloper in einem 170 000 m² großen Landschaftspark. Das Projekt versucht den ehemaligen Parkplatz, der von den Olympischen Spielen 2004 übriggeblieben war, wiedereinzugliedern und die verloren gegangene Verbindung zur Stadt und zum Meer wiederherzustellen. Oper und Bibliothek sind in einem Gebäude untergebracht, wobei ein öffentlicher Raum, die Agora, den Zugang und die Verbindung zwischen den beiden Hauptgebäuden ermöglicht. Der Operntrakt besteht aus zwei Sälen, von denen der eine (1400 Plätze) für traditionelle Opern und Ballette und der andere (450 Plätze) für experimentelle Aufführungen bestimmt ist. Die Bibliothek mit ihren 1.000.000 Bänden ist nicht nur ein Ort des Lernens und der Bewahrung der Kultur, sondern auch eine öffentliche Einrichtung, in der Kultur geteilt und genossen werden kann. Der vollständig verglaste Lesesaal der Bibliothek befindet sich auf dem Dach des Gebäudes direkt unter dem Vordach. Er ist ein quadratischer, horizontaler, transparenter Kasten, der einen 360-Grad-Blick auf Athen und das Meer bietet.

The Stavos Niarchos Cultural Centre was built in Kallithea, 4 km south of the centre of Athens. The cultural and educational project includes the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera in a 170 000 m² landscaped park. The project seeks to reintegrate the former car park left over from the 2004 Olympic Games and restore the lost connection to the city and the sea. The opera and library are housed in one building, with a public space, the agora, providing access and connection between the two main buildings. The opera wing consists of two halls, one (1 400 seats) for traditional operas and ballets and the other (450 seats) for experimental performances. The library, with its 1,000,000 volumes, is not only a place for learning and preserving culture, but also a public facility where culture can be shared and enjoyed. The library's fully glazed reading room is located on the roof of the building directly under the canopy. It is a square, horizontal, transparent box that offers a 360-degree view of Athens and the sea.
