Rund 190.000 Noten, Bild- und Tonträger, Bücher und sonstigen Medien umfasst die neue Fachbibliothek der Folkwang Universität der Künste. Die vorher über mehrere Einrichtungen auf dem historischen Campus verstreuten musikwissenschaftlichen Bestände sind nun in einem viergeschossigen Neubau zusammengefasst. Der renommierte Architekt Max Dudler entwarf das Gebäude nach der Idee eines Schmuckkästchens, dessen opake Hülle den wertvollen Kern schützt. Im Zentrum befindet sich der Lesesaal, um den sich in Raumschichten die weiteren Funktionsbereiche der Bibliothek anordnen. Die scheinbare Natursteinfassade besteht in Wirklichkeit aus Glasscheiben, die mit Nahaufnahmen eines Steinbruchs bedruckt wurden. Die Eröffnung fand am 19. September 2012 statt.
The new music library of the Folkwang University of the Arts contains around 190,000 notes, visual and audio recordings, books and other media. The musicological holdings were initially scattered across several facilities on the historic campus, whereas they are now brought together in a new four-storey building. The well-known architect Max Dudler designed the building according to the idea of a jewel box: an opaque shell protects the valuable core. In the centre is the reading room, around which the other functional areas of the library are arranged in layers. The facade suggests a natural stone facade, but in reality consists of glass panels printed with close-ups of a stone quarry. Opening was on the 19th of September in 2012.
